New for 2027, the Capital City Sprint and Capital Learn to Ski Day will be held on separate dates. Capital City Learn to Ski will be held on Saturday, February 13th.
Capital City Sprint
This event is a low-key, community-oriented (all-comers) Freestyle Sprint (1-1.5k) competition featuring the fun and inclusive Queen’s Court format.
How the Queen’s Court Works:
6 person heats will go off every few minutes for three rounds of head-to-head racing. After the first two rounds of heats:
Top 2 finishers move “up” to the next fastest heat.
Middle 2 finishers remain in the same heat.
Last 2 finishers move “down” to the next slowest heat.
Everyone is guaranteed three rounds of head-to-head racing, and the winners will be determined in the final, fastest heat! Everyone from 7th grade and older and all abilities are welcome to participate. The race is open to skiers on skate or classic skis but they will not be separately seeded.
Separate BKL sprint races will also be held for pre-K through 8th graders.
